Music by Jason Howard
Lyrics by Mindi Dickstein
Book by Allan Knee
Based on the novel by Louisa May Alcott
Louisa May Alcott's 1869 semi-autobiographical classic novel gets a musical make
over, with its themes of sisterhood and female empowerment providing an
automatic connect for women of all ages. An inspiring story of the March
sisters - Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy - growing up during the American Civil War. A
story that touches the hearts and minds of young and old alike.
Little Women focuses on the four March sisters - feisty, tomboyish, aspiring
author Jo, who maintains fierce loyalty and love for her family while refusing
the constricting role laid out for women at that time, romantic Meg, pretentious
Amy, and kind-hearted Beth - and their beloved Marmee, at home in Concord,
Massachusetts while the family patriarch is away serving as a Union Army
chaplain during the Civil War. Intercut with the vignettes in which their lives
unfold are several recreations of the melodramatic short stories Jo writes in
her attic studio.
